Text Box: The Tom Kitching Diaries
Text Box: In 1944, Thomas Kitching died at the age of 54 in Changi gaol, a prisoner of the Japanese. In 1998, his son, Rotarian Brian, self published his father’s Japanese War Diary. While we can only imagine how difficult this must have been for Brian and Moira, the book, ‘Life and Death in Changi’ has been acclaimed as ‘an important historical document’. Brian now has possession of his father’s diaries from 1913 to 1920. They give a fascinating insight of life in the Colonial Service over the period which included World War I.
Brian has kindly agreed to extracts being published in By George. Turn to page 4 for the first instalment.
Text Box: partner Elaine’s request to organize a Gala Evening for the benefit of our Community Service Committee.
Not content with persuading Daisy Henderson (Soprano), Paul Anwyl (Baritone) and Karen Murray (Mezzo Soprano) to join him for the event, John has enlisted the services of Scottish Opera Head of Music Derek Clark as
