Members Urged To Put Smiles Back on Faces
Text Box: We enter a historic year for our club. Not only have you been brave enough to install the first female president in our 28 year history but in 2005 we will be celebrating Rotary¹s 100th birthday. We could all feel 100 years old
by the end of my year!

I want to record at this stage my immense pride and genuine humility for the very great honour you do me this evening. I know I¹m no Charlie Gallacher but I hope I can make him and you proud of the role I fill in his absence.

Like my very able successors, George Beaton and John Lewington, I come to
this lofty office courtesy of a fast-track system. We may have little Rotary
experience but one advantage is we¹re still young enough to give speeches
using our own teeth and show up on the right day.

As I said earlier, I hope to build on the work carried out by David - his
hopes and aspirations for this club are very much in Text Box: July 2004

Text Box: “The King is dead—long live the Queen”, said outgoing President David Ramsay. He was making history in the life of Perth St Johns, and indeed the City of Perth as he handed the Presidential chain over to Maureen Young at the Club Assembly on 30 June 2004. Maureen is, of course, the first member of the fair sex to hold the office of President of a Rotary Club in Perth.
Why it has taken almost 100 years from the birth of Rotary for the first lady president to be installed in Perth is a discussion for another time. Members certainly believe that in Maureen, we have the ideal Club President to guide us through our Rotary Centennial Year.
Text Box: accord with my own -
and hopefully those of all of you.
For 2004/05 our theme is ‘Celebrate Rotary’ and I
